Good location, that’s about it
- long hours - leaving 7-8pm is the norm, expected from everyone. Developers normally leave 9-10pm, and the most dedicated servants leave 11pm. - low pay - working for the absolute minimum and promised sky high bonuses on commissions. That’d be ok, except that there’s literally zero time/opportunity to earn those bonuses. Firstly, all profitable markets/clients are already taken, either by the owners or the few chosen old timers. Secondly, the workload/admin targets are structured as such that there’s no way to squeeze in any reasonable client work/biz development. Even if you’re a sales unicorn, working 12hrs a day, sweat blood and manage to get a client, the system/product is so rigid that you won’t be able to close the deal without additional help (favour) from one of the owners—they will then claim a part or whole of your commission. - rude managers - swearing out loud in french is normal here. Telling off non-french speaking employees in french is also common and the owners are then laughing at it. The owners don’t even know how to converse like civilised people, always arguing in pub-level tone. Employees who are new to the country or don’t know any other french people are then easily convinced that it’s a cultural thing—it’s not. These two just lack basic manners, have zero people skills and very low self awareness. My last straw was when the CEO has yelled at me “are you stupid” in front of the whole office (just because I didn’t understand a detail in his made up undocumented process that I was never trained on). - the office - basically tens of small desks squeezed in together like in a sweatshop. It’s quite smoking/drinking tolerant environment also, might be a positive for some but defo a negative for most. - coworkers - mostly nice but honestly, technologically clueless imo. The types that work at this company are 1. French who are brainwashed by the owners and given extra privileges cause of their nodding (during afterwork drinks); 2. People desperate for visa and determined to do anything for it without asking questions; 3. People with zero experience in tech but desperate for a (any) job; 4. People who wouldn’t get an office job anywhere else because they don’t even have basic spreadsheets knowledge; 5. From time to time there’s a nice, talented, educated employee hired - but those are usually gone in a matter of days, weeks. Oh yes, new people come and go on weekly basis usually, monthly during downtime. - outdated tech - old PC’s, slow internet. No proper software tools - they don’t want to buy any apps that you see in other normal offices. They don’t trust anything and anyone. It’s either an outdated open source tool locked and customised to their needs or some tool they’ve built in-house years ago and haven’t updated since. The product(s) itself was built “on a knee”, stuck in old (2000) dot com mentality culture- and code-wise. Their web scraper uses very little automation and most of the country managers’ job is manual data entry fixing up faulty scraper data. - plus all other reviews here are very well spot on. Friday 5pm meetings, unachievable targets/deadlines made out of thin air, nobody speaks freely during the day, improvised training, the owners know best and there’s nobody better than them. All true and accurate. - overall the worst job I’ve ever had. Still, thought me a lot - about how not to treat people and how not to run a company :)
